Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe has admitted he loves watching current Spurs star James Maddison.
Tottenham have been boosted by the 27-year-old’s return to full fitness in recent weeks after a lengthy layoff due to an ankle injury.
It’s fair to say that James Maddison isn’t quite back to his best yet following his spell on the sidelines.
The Englishman appears to be lacking match sharpness but was undeniably one of the standout players in the Premier League before the injury setback.

Jermain Defoe has been speaking to Football Firsts and admitted he’s a huge admirer of the Spurs star.
“Maddison, like when I watch Madders play, like you said, you would pay money to watch these players because you know they’ll always do things in the game that make you go ooh. Yeah, I like that,” Defoe said.

Maddison completed a switch to Hotspur Way back in June, with Spurs paying £40 million to land the midfielder from Leicester City.
In his first 10 league games for Tottenham, the Englishman managed six goals and three assists. He’s managed just one assist in four league appearances since returning as he continues to build up his match sharpness.
We do not doubt that Maddison will return to his best form soon enough and it will be a huge boost for Ange Postecoglou once he does.
The midfield just hasn’t clicked in recent games and it’s led to some underwhelming performances. But with plenty of players, including Maddison, working their way back to full match sharpness, we certainly hope to see Postecoglou’s side purring once again in the near future.
The Spurs manager has already shown what kind of performances he can get out of this side after an excellent start to the season.
Despite a recent dip, we’ve still picked 20 points from a possible 30 in our last 10 games. With Maddison yet to return to his best form, there’s no cause for concern over our recent displays.
