AC Milan have made Paulo Fonseca their number one target to replace Stefano Pioli after officially announcing that the manager will be stepping down from the role at the end of the season.
Pioli had spent five years in Milan where he had guided the club back to the top of the table winning their first title in eleven years in 2022. However, with his time coming to an end, Milan will instead focus on the Lille OSC manager who is coming to the end of his contract.
According to Foot Mercato, Lille have pushed hard to keep Fonseca at the club and have offered him a new and lucrative deal to remain in the North of France. However, their desire has been rivalled by Milan’s own offer of a two-year contract with an option to extend for a further year.
Fonseca also has interest from Olympique de Marseille and the Qatari club Al Sadd. The Portuguese manager has been clear that he wants to take his time and assess all the offers before making a final decision on his future.
