Former Roma coach Paulo Fonseca was asked to reflect on his two years in the Italian capital between 2019 and 2021.
The Portuguese technician – who was eventually replaced by Jose Mourinho at the end of the 20/21 campaign – spoke about the challenges he faced as Roma underwent an ownership change during his tenure.
“The experience in Rome was difficult, but I loved it,” Fonseca told The Athletic. “It was beautiful.”
“The Italians’ passion for football is incredible. There are radio stations that talk about football for 24 hours, as well as all the newspapers. There was enormous pressure.”
“In Italy I saw many different ways of playing football l and I had to adapt to pure one-on-one, for example,” added the current Lille boss.
