Paulo Fonseca’s future at Lille OSC is uncertain. The Portuguese manager’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign and no decision has been made regarding a potential extension.
Whilst Fonseca refuses to openly discuss his future, preferring instead to focus on the club’s UEFA Europa Conference League campaign, as well as their chase for a UEFA Champions League qualification for next season, there is nonetheless talk of a departure.
Olympique de Marseille showed interest in Fonseca before opting to bring in Marcelino, however, with interim manager Jean-Louis Gasset leaving in the summer, that interest could be renewed, according to La Provence. It is thought that Fonseca is not reticent to the idea of a move to the Vélodrome.
However, there could be interest from elsewhere. The I are reporting that West Ham United are interested in Fonseca as a potential replacement for David Moyes this summer. The London-based club are fans of Fonseca’s attacking style. In an interview with the BBC, Fonseca has admitted that managing in the Premier League may be an attractive proposition.
“I have to confess it is very attractive the championship in England, with the best coaches, with the best teams, with the best players. Of course, to challenge myself in this way, to play against the best, can be amazing. But I am not obsessed with this. I am [feeling] very good here. I feel very respected here in France,” said Fonseca ahead of Lille’s Conference League encounter against Aston Villa on Thursday.
