Juventus won well against Crotone at the weekend but Paulo Dybala’s goalscoring troubles continued.
The Argentina has scored just twice in his last 12 appearances, but former Juve player Domenico Marocchino thinks he knows why.
“Paulo Dybala is becoming more and more a midfielder and less and less a striker,” explained the 60-year-old, who won Serie A twice with the Bianconeri.
Dybala has never really played as a striker for Juventus, being stationed behind a frontman – usually Gonzalo Higuaín – in Max Allegri’s 4-2-3-1 formation.
There has been talk of a shift in formation should Juve’s form not improve, but Sunday’s win suggested that might not be necessary.
“I liked how Juve played against Crotone I have to say but there are still some problems,” Marocchino added.
“I know that it can be difficult to face these smaller teams who are hungry for points.
“I heard some jeers towards the end of the first half which is never easy on the players but they then found a way to break the deadlock early on in the second half.”
Juve scored three second half goals to keep the pressure up on Napoli, who are four points clear of the current Serie A champions heading into Friday’s big game.
