Paul Scholes explains Man Utd concern with indispensable Bruno Fernandes | OneFootball

Paul Scholes sympathises with Manchester United’s forwards and believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side is over reliant on the influence of Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes was once again the match-winner as the Reds secured their first home league win of the season against West Brom.

The Portuguese playmaker’s retaken penalty in the second-half ensured the three points in a far from convincing performance that leaves many questions still unanswered about the issues within the side.

United were fortunate to benefit from each of the key decisions in the game, with West Brom having a penalty of their own overturned just before Fernandes opened the scoring.

Solskjaer admitted at full-time his side were ‘way below par‘ and what was most concerning was a lack of creativity and ingenuity against a struggling side that should have been comfortably dismissed.

Despite Baggies goalkeeper Sam Johnstone producing a man-of-the-match performance for a number of superb saves, United failed to break the opposition down for large periods.

Unsurprisingly, Fernandes looked the most likely to carve an opening, and Scholes worries where United would be without the totemic midfielder.

“It was an ugly win. Hopefully, that will give them a bit of confidence,” Scholes told BT Sport at full-time, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

“You do wonder where Man United would be without Fernandes. Before Bruno came in, United couldn’t create a chance.”

Fernandes’ penalty was only United’s third home goal this season and the levels of attacking creativity are a growing concern.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were both quiet throughout on Saturday evening and Scholes believes the pair are not getting the support they require going forward.

“I feel a bit sorry for the forwards as they’re having to make their own chances.” the United great added
