Manchester United legend Paul Scholes praised midfielder Sofyan Amrabat following his fantastic performance in the FA Cup final win over Manchester City.

The Morocco international got the nod in the number six position against the Cityzens yesterday. He was picked over Casemiro, who was not fit for the final.

Amrabat delivered a fine display with 37 touches, completing 25 of his 27 passes. He also won two duels, made two clearances, two tackles and blocked one shot.

The midfielder lost possession on just three occasions which was quite impressive in a big final.

Shortly after the 2-1 victory, Scholes praised Amrabat on Instagram. He posted that the 27-year-old was ‘like a prime Gattuso‘ after stepping up for the big occasion.

Amrabat joined the Red Devils from Fiorentina on loan last summer after much speculation.

United paid a hefty loan fee of €10 million to sign him. Manager Erik ten Hag initially played him at left back before he made a few appearances in midfield.

Amrabat never got a fair chance to establish himself until this month. After solid displays against Arsenal and Newcastle United, he was rewarded with a starting berth in the final.

The 56-cap international capitalised with a splendid showing. The big question is whether United will trigger the €20m option to buy him at the end of the season.

With Casemiro no longer in his prime, the club should consider keeping Amrabat and offloading the Brazilian. However, the new hierarchy may have different plans.

Amrabat could continue in the Premier League next season with Fulham and Crystal Palace sending scouts to monitor his performances over the past few games.
