Reports in France claim that Paul Pogba is closing in on a return to Juventus.
The Manchester United midfielder has spent his entire senior career at either of the two clubs.
After joining the United academy from Le Havre in 2009, Pogba then moved from Old Trafford to Turin in 2012 after letting his contract run down.
The France international was unhappy with a lack of first-team opportunities with the Red Devils.
He spent four years with the Old Lady before returning to United in 2016 for a then-world record fee of £89.3m.
While success came in the form of EFL Cup and Carabao Cup in his first season back at the Theatre of Dreams, Pogba’s second stint in the famous red jersey has fallen way short of expectations.
A tempestuous relationship with former manager Jose Mourinho didn’t help, but injuries and inconsistency have also been a feature of the 27-year-old’s recent history.
There’s no doubt the best years of his club career to date have been with Juve, and the Serie A giants want to bring Pogba back to northern Italy.
L’Equipe (via The Sunday Express) is reporting that the deal is on the “verge” of being completed.
A figure of £72m is being mooted, which would represent reasonable business for United given Pogba’s intertia and the unstable nature of state of the transfer market at the moment.
