Paul Pogba has backed Kylian Mbappé to “shut some mouths” after he opened his World Cup account this week.

The Paris Saint-Germain striker became the youngest player to score a tournament goal for France as they overcame Peru 1-0 in Ekaterinburg.

And the Manchester United midfielder has admitted that the scrutiny on the goalscorer is only so high because of his exceptional performances for club and country in recent years.

“Kylian is so talented,” he told Les Parisiens.

“We expect so much from him but he’s so young. After the game we’ll talk about him, and at the next game he may be criticised again, but he’ll confirm again why he’s such a great player.

“In fact, things have changed for big players like him. It’s no longer about just playing football, it’s about shutting some mouths as well.

“Of course, he’s such a big talent, and because of that the media are going to be on him all the time. But the best answer to all that is on the pitch.”

Didier Deschamps men are already through to the last 16 and will play their final Group C game against Denmark on Tuesday.
