Italy’s Anti-Doping tribunal has announced that French midfielder Paul Pogba has been provisionally suspended following a doping offence.
The suspension stems from a recent test conducted after Juventus’ victory over Udinese on August 20.
The results revealed elevated testosterone levels. Testosterone is a hormone known for enhancing athletes’ endurance.
Paul Pogba’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, insists the player had no intention of breaching doping regulations.
Pimenta said to Tuttosport: “We’re waiting for the counter-analysis, and we can’t say anything now.
“For sure, Pogba never wanted to bend the rules – I can guarantee that.”
The news has cast a shadow over Pogba’s career. The 30-year-old has battled with injuries since his return to Juventus from Manchester United just over a year ago, impacting his playing time.
He was notably sidelined during France’s journey to the 2022 World Cup final due to a knee injury and made just six Serie A appearances for Juventus last season.
Pogba has not started a game this season but has made two substitute appearances. His most recent outing was in the 2-0 win against Empoli, and he reportedly had a niggle in the dying moments of the game.
These disruptions have hindered his progress and raised questions about his ability to regain peak form.
In addition to the doping controversy, Pogba’s life has been further complicated by an ongoing police investigation in France, where allegations of extortion have emerged.
These allegations involve Pogba’s older brother, Mathias, who has denied wrongdoing.
This latest setback is yet another blow to Juventus. The Turin club is already grappling with legal issues related to false accounting and irregular reporting of salary payments.
These legal matters led to UEFA’s decision to exclude the Turin club from European competition for the current season.
