Southampton fans have put forward a good one-dimensional play style point about Paul Onuachu that can limit his Championship success.
At this stage in Southampton's campaign, their whole roster can be split in three. One group that showed up till the halfway, matchday 16, under Russell Martin. Others who never turned up and the rare set that stood perfect in the latter half.
Now, many players can be found in the first one, some in the second, but very few belong to the final group.
Ok, let's be real, there's only one name in the final basket, Paul Onuachu.
Well, accept it or not Southampton fans, but Onuachu has been the club's only scoring hope lately. Quite literally, the last reason St. Mary’s faithful had to stay invested in this turbulent spell.
But while the Nigerian forward's purple patch has helped Southampton, it has complicated his club future quite a lot. Well, given his form, every fan's heart would want to let him continue but the brain questions, can he deliver in the Championship next season?
And that's the big question now. Do you renew Onuachu or cash in before the must-win promotion push?
Surely, a harsh call to take, but going by fan-pundit Martin Sanders, Southampton mustn't risk with Onuachu. As per him, solely relying on Onuachu can only work if the club reorients their playstyle for him.
As quoted by the Football League World, Sanders said: "From what I've seen of him at times this year, he isn't that mobile, and you would need a manager to play to his strengths if he was going to do well in the Championship."
Well, honestly, Sanders has a valid point here, one many Saints fans likely share. Sure, he’s a rare physical specimen. But a reluctant presser like Onuachu might just cost Southampton next season.
