All eyes were on the Welsh club owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, both watching on at the Racecourse Ground, as they sought the victory that would earn an emotional return to League Two.

Boreham Wood threatened to rip up the script when they scored in the opening minute, as Lee Ndlovu found himself clean through on goal and lobbed the helpless Ben Foster to leave the home fans in a stunned silence.

But Elliot Lee equalised after 15 minutes to setlle the nerves of the sell-out crowd, and Wrexham then turned on the style after the break with striker Paul Mullin scoring twice, both sensational finishes as he took his National League tally for the season to 38 goals.

That ensured Wrexham could at least enjoy the final few minutes, knowing they had a slight cushion, and they saw it out to spark a pitch invasion on the final whistle, with both Reynolds and McElhenney emotional as they celebrated from the stands.

Promotion rivals Notts County had earlier beaten Maidstone 5-2 to raise the stakes, and they can consider themselves incredibly unfortunate. Despite sitting on 106 points with a game to spare, it will be the play-offs for Notts County as they look to join Wrexham in League Two next season.
