Paul Merson’s prediction for Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League clash against Palace | OneFootball

Liverpool will welcome Crystal Palace to Anfield this weekend. The Premier League fixture will kick-off at 3pm on Saturday.

Liverpool have looked good in the early parts of the 2021-22 Premier League season. The Reds sit in third-place on the table after four matches.

Crystal Palace on the other hand have had an average start to the new campaign. After four matches, the Eagles sit in 11th-place on the table.

However, Crystal Palace did manage to beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 at Selhurst Park last weekend.

Despite that being the case, pundit Paul Merson believes that Liverpool will comfortably beat the Eagles this weekend.

As quoted by The Metro, Merson told Sportskeeda the following: “I watched Liverpool play in the UEFA Champions League last night and they absolutely blew AC Milan away in the first 15 minutes or so. They missed a penalty in the first half and somehow went into half-time 2-1 down!

“Virgil van Dijk was rested and Liverpool looked a bit shaky at the back at times, but he’s likely to return to the starting XI against Crystal Palace.

“Against Leeds United [in the Premier League last weekend], Liverpool could have won 7-0, but they were wasteful in attack. It just seems to me like when the game is over, their attackers just go and do their own thing.

“Sometimes, it’s like watching grassroots football – when one team is winning 10-0, everyone wants to score!

“Palace had a good result against Tottenham Hotspur, as they recorded their first win of the Premier League season. That said, I expect Liverpool to win this one rather comfortably.

“Prediction: Liverpool 3-0 Crystal Palace.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

We completely agree with Merson’s prediction. Liverpool should be defeating Crystal Palace this weekend. The aforementioned placings back up our argument.

However, the Eagles did show last weekend that they are capable of putting together a good performance.

With that being the case, Jurgen Klopp’s side will have to play well if they wish to secure the three points.
