Well there you have it, the Newcastle United performance we have all been waiting for.

It is a calendar year today since ‘Gordon-gate’ and the subsequent Arsenal whinge fest that swiftly followed.

I really felt like James Cagney’s fictional character Cody Jarrett in White Heat last night… “I was on top of the World Ma!”

There were immense performances in black and white stripes all over the St James’ Park pitch.

Alexander Isak’s winning goal in the 12th minute was a thing of extreme and eternal beauty, from the moment it was precisely delivered by the excellent Anthony Gordon’s right boot.

The Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta looked timid and subdued throughout proceedings, maybe lamenting on his childish shenanigans 12 short months ago.

No need for us to worry though as the score was still the same. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it Captain Black.

It’s Nottingham Forest at the City Ground up next. They are on one hell of a good run and one man in particular is grabbing all the plaudits.

I may have fancied Amii Stewart back in the 1970’s but you’ll never ever hear me ‘Knocking on Wood.’

Our former player Chris Wood is on absolute fire and has set the whole of Forest alight with his hot goalscoring form.

Our main man in the goal plundering stakes is also coming right back into form. We all know that our Rolls Royce Alex takes some stopping when he goes on a scoring run.

Confidence has now hopefully been restored in the United camp but we shouldn’t get carried away after this fine victory.

Although good on their day, the Gunners of Arsenal are over-hyped, especially in the media. It has also been noticeable how little credit Newcastle have received.

It’s actually maybe a good thing if they keep us under the radar.

“Paul Merson, Martin Keown, Darren Bent, Thierry Henry, Charlie George, David Dein, Sam Kroenke and of course Mikel Arteta… Your boys took one hell of a beating.”

Well not in actual fact but it’s still “1-0 to the Noo-car-sel.”
