Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom has revealed to Yorkshire Live that the club have been scouting players from overseas for the best part of two months.

The Blades are currently seeking to add further to their existing squad this month in an attempt to close the gap on the Sky Bet Championship play-off places after originally making a slow start to the season under Slavisa Jokanovic.

Goalkeepers Robin Olsen and Michael Verrips have both left the club, with new signings now expected to come through the door in certain areas that need strengthening at the Bramall Lane outfit.

Now Heckingbottom has provided an update on the work that has been conducted by the club’s recruitment team, as he stated the following recently:

“We have been looking overseas.

“There has been a lot of work done over the two months that I have been here, a hell of a lot of work.

“We have got into some good positions with players and hopefully we can get one in.

“It would be through no lack of effort and we will just keep trying and trying.”

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing?

Yes No

There are now two more loan spots available within the squad, which means the Blades could once again dip back into that market.

However Heckingbottom is said to prefer permanent moves as he seeks to build a side that is focused on more youthful players.

The Verdict

It is an interesting time for Sheffield United as they are desperately looking for the extra one or two new players who could well have a lasting impact for them moving forwards.

Whether they will be loans or permanent deals, the aim will remain the same – come into the squad and make an impact.

They need players who will be match winners, not people that will just want to come along for the ride.

And it is for that reason that the Blades must continue to do their due diligence in order to ensure that they bring in the right additions moving forwards.
