Paul Gascoigne welcoming David Ginola to Everton is still hilarious

Paul Gascoigne and David Ginola are two of the most entertaining footballers the Premier League has ever seen.

Yes, they were both brilliant and had bags of ability.

But they also had something special. They were enigmatic and capable of producing moments of magic with their individualism and character.

Both played at Newcastle and Tottenham at different times during their career, becoming heroes at St James’ Park and White Hart Lane.

But, towards the end of their careers, they teamed up at Everton during the 2000/01 campaign.

Gascoigne and Ginola in the same side. It was the recipe for greatness.

Unfortunately, Ginola managed just five Premier League games at Goodison Park before retiring.

But that was still long enough for an iconic moment to occur in the very first training session with both players.

Ginola, known for his amazing hair and L’Oreal adverts, had joined Everton on a free transfer midway through the season and Gascoigne welcomed him to the club in the only way he knew how.

The Everton players alongside their new signing had begun their first training session but there was someone missing – Gascoigne.

However, he soon appeared sporting long luscious locks in the form of a wig to mimic Ginola.

The reporters – and the Everton players – found it rather hilarious.

It wasn’t to be for Gazza and Ginola at Everton.

Ginola lasted just seven matches in total with new Everton boss, David Moyes, deeming the Frenchman surplus to requirements. He made just one substitute appearance from March onwards.

His contract wasn’t renewed at the end of the season and left the club before retiring to pursue acting and television work.

As for Gascoigne, he left Merseyside shorty after Ginola arrived having played 23 times in all competitions during the 2000/01 campaign. He finished the season at Burnley in the First Division.

Moves to Gansu Tianma in China and League Two’s Boston United followed before Gascoigne finally called time on his incredible career.

They don’t make them like Gascoigne and Ginola anymore.
