Paul Dummett signed off at Newcastle United in June.

The 32 year old Geordie and Matt Ritchie, amongst those who had been informed they wouldn’t be getting a new contract after their current ones expired on 30 June 2024.

Paul Dummett had lived the dream.

A lifelong Newcastle United fan, he has been at the club most of his life, man and boy.

After his impending departure had been confirmed, Paul Dummett taking to social media (see below) to express his feelings.

Whilst his Premier League days may be behind him, no reason why the left-footed defender can’t do a job lower down the leagues.

Indeed, Paul Dummett now reported to be in talks with Portsmouth.

If a deal can be agreed, the Geordie defender will join up with other former NUFC players, Matt Ritchie and Elias Sorensen.

Portsmouth have looked competitive and started their Championship season with three draws.

Hopefully they can pick up their first win of this league season on Saturday, when they host… Sunderland.

“The time has come for me to say goodbye to the club.

“I write this message with a heavy heart.

“Having been proud to have represented the first team for 12 years.

“Something I never in a million years thought I’d ever achieve.
