According to Bamford, Fabinho had to continuously remind the Liverpool defence to push up the pitch.

Bamford added that Fabinho’s message did not get across to the Liverpool defence at any point throughout the match.

“Fabinho was saying to the rest of the back four a lot: ‘we’re too deep, we’re too deep, we need to get up, we need to get up’,” Bamford told The Official Leeds United podcast.

“And when a team starts dropping off, you know it’s because they’re too tired to keep getting up and dropping and getting up.

“He was saying it all the time, but it wasn’t changing anything, they were just getting deeper and deeper.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

What we took from Bamford’s comments is that Fabinho is a leader.  Fabinho might not wear the armband on a weekly basis, but Bamford’s comments highlight that the Brazilian is a voice out on the pitch.

Fabinho has had a decent season for Liverpool. The centre-back and midfielder is averaging a WhoScored player rating of 6.88 cross the 2020-21 campaign.

Back in the summer of 2019, Liverpool signed Fabinho from Monaco for a transfer fee of €45 million.

Fabinho’s current market value is €60 million, which highlights that he has improved as a footballer since signing for the Reds.
