While playing for the Spanish national team during the international break, Barcelona’s Patricia Guijarro suffered an injury and has withdrawn from international duty.
According to a club statement on Tuesday, it was confirmed by Barcelona’s medical staff that “the player has suffered an injury to the abdominal muscles.”
The severity of the injury is yet to be determined following an evaluation.
Guijarro, who scored the winning goal in Spain’s 1-0 upset against the Netherlands, will miss out on the friendly against Mexico as a result.
Additionally, the midfielder will also be touch and go for Barcelona’s upcoming fixtures depending on what the evaluation finds.
A staple player in Lluís Cortés’ side, the loss is a massive blow for the club as they chase the UEFA Women’s Champions League title.
