Pat Nevin wants to see Thomas Tuchel make ‘a few tweaks’ including Reece James in midfield

Chelsea have now gone through three matches in a row where things just haven’t been right, and this is massively unusual for Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea.

Of course, we won the game against Watford, and didn’t even lose to Manchester United. But at Watford we were VERY lucky to get all three points, and United was disappointing because we were all over them and should have won.

Then we lost to West Ham of course and former Blue Pat Nevin, who writes a regular column on the Chelsea website, believes that the game against Zenit this week should bring us a chance to make ‘a few tweaks’ here and there.

Now I’m a total advocate for this and I have been for some time, but Nevin agrees, he would also like to see Reece James in midfield. Personally I think he’s ready-made for that position and would be fantastic there.

“Could Chelsea consider a few tweaks here and there in Russia?,” Nevin asked in his column this week.

“I reckon a number of options might be worth looking at. Reece James in midfield? Yes, I know we would miss his crosses from the right, but then we might get even more of his hammer shots from 30 yards as a bonus, and anyway it could be worth seeing how he manages.

“Even a little tweak of the system itself as a one off, just to have a look, might be worth a try, considering others are getting used to our current methods. There are also a few players such as Ross Barkley who need some more minutes, who will come into the manager’s mind.”

Good points raised if you ask me.
