Celtic suffered Champions League heartbreak despite producing one of their best away performances in a long time against Bayern Munich.

The Bhoys were trailing 2-1 from the first leg at Celtic Park, and the task was already difficult. They stuck to their game plan and didn’t allow Bayern to create enough clear-cut chances.

Celtic, on the other hand, created several goal-scoring opportunities, and deservedly took the lead in the second half.

In the dying seconds of the game, Bayern equalised through Alphonso Davies. Celtic nearly took the game to the extra time, but with that goal, their Champions League campaign had ended in bitter heartbreak.

Despite the defeat, they can return to Glasgow with their heads held high.

Chris Sutton wrote on X that he felt Celtic were lacking enough depth on the bench, and that is one area where Brendan Rodgers should look to improve next season.

Pat Boner is confident that Rodgers will look to improve the squad again, and they need to keep doing it every season so that the club can compete at the highest level.

Boner said on BBC Sportsound: “Rodgers will look to strengthen again, there’s no doubt about that.

“The players understand the plan and how to implement it. They trust the manager and how he wants to play. It’s his job to keep them improving and if they add quality, the future is very bright.”

Celtic improved their squad last summer when they signed players like Arne Engels, Auston Trusty and Luke McCowan. They also added Jota to their squad in January.

Pat Nevin also suggested that the Hoops need a little bit more strength in depth, especially in big European games. He also believes that Rodgers will build the squad from here.
