League One side Reading have agreed to sell their Bearwood training facility to league rivals Wycombe Wanderers, according to a report from The Athletic.

The Royals' fans were notified in a statement by owner Dai Yongge and CEO Dayong Pang on Sunday that they were open to selling Bearwood to resolve their short-term funding issues.

This was a major concern for the Berkshire outfit's supporters, considering they have seen many other assets stripped from their control, including the hotel, car park and even the Select Car Leasing Stadium in recent years.

Owner Dai bought the SCL Stadium, but it doesn't seem as though there's any chance that Bearwood will be able to be included in any takeover deal.

Wycombe, who are based in Buckinghamshire but aren't a million miles away from the training facility in Wokingham, are now set to be the new owners of the state-of-the-art training ground.

This development may only go on to cause more unrest in the Royals' fanbase.

Not only are they no longer going to be the owners of their own training ground, but the club doesn't seem to be close to a takeover deal either.

The Chairboys, on the other hand, now look set to enjoy Premier League-standard facilities when they train.

Currently based in Marlow, owner Rob Couhig has invested money in improvements to their training ground, but space is limited there.

Wycombe had been considering building a new facility, but an opportunity to buy Bearwood popped up and that is an opportunity they have taken with both hands.

A consortium, led by former Charlton Athletic director Leo Rifkind, has walked away from a takeover deal due to current owner Dai's decision to sell Bearwood Park.

This consortium was Chiron Sports Group, who are based in London and Switzerland and have a stake in Italian outfit Venezia.

The group are believed to be dismayed by Dai's decision to cash in on the training ground, which is unlikely to be included in any takeover deal now.

Even the stadium may not be included in the takeover package, with Dai in control of that too, and it's unclear if the Royals' owner is genuinely wanting to sell the third-tier side.

The decision to sell Bearwood is a reckless one - and you have to wonder whether Dai is genuinely looking to sell the Royals.

Short-term funding will be the excuse used for this sale, but it's clear that the sale of the training ground will make the club less attractive to buy.

Some will call for further protests and understandably so, considering the club seems to be in an extremely vulnerable decision.

Others will just be keen to get behind the team, regardless of the off-field situation, with the club sitting just five points above the drop zone at the moment.

It remains to be seen what fans do next, but they will be hugely concerned by last night's news.
