Driving for change: What can sport do to help?

  • It is estimated that the global football industry produces more than 30 million tonnes of carbon dioxide every year, which is about the same size as the total emissions of Denmark
  • A quick glance at the above numbers shows the massive difference in the impact of sports at a grassroots and global level
  • While the sport industry in general is working towards improvement in the green transition, some organisations are now progressively trying to reconstruct their business model to be more sustainable. Leeds United and Hunters coaches are working together in this approach
  • The Park & Ride service is reducing over 150 cars travelling to the ground each match, which is a significant reduction in the carbon footprint
  • Replacing car journeys with public transport can help reduce CO2 emissions by 42% if using the bus

Further information

To further improve this service, official Leeds United club stewards will be present at both Park & Ride sites and will be checking supporters onto the buses. Each passenger will be given a wristband by Hunters Coaches staff before departing to Elland Road. On the return journey, passengers must show their wrist band in order to board the bus back to the Park & Ride sites. Any supporters without a wristband will not be able to travel on this service.

All supporters are advised to have access to their Leeds United Park & Ride booking confirmation email on matchday.
