Paris Saint-Germain are close to completing the signing of Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz, according to Corriere Dello Sport.
The negotiations are advanced, and a deal will cost the French champions €25 million.
As he entered the final year of his contract, Ruiz told Napoli that he would not. Both sides were looking for a solution, and now PSG’s interest has provided one.
Ruiz arrived from Real Betis in 2018 after a breakthrough campaign in Spain. Under Carlo Ancelotti, Ruiz settled nicely into the Partenopei. He also became a Spanish international while playing for Napoli.
The 26-year-old has continued his steady development season after season. Ruiz can play in several midfield positions and excels in most of them. He can sit deep and dictate play or operate as a box-to-box midfielder. Ruiz can also play as the creator.
After four years in Italy, Ruiz feels the time has come for his big move. Real Madrid and Manchester United were reportedly interested, but PSG have now made the most concrete plans to sign Ruiz.
Following the tenure of Leonardo, Les Parisiens are rebuilding their squad with sporting director Luis Campos at the helm of affairs.
His first order of business was hiring a manager who trusts in his ideas. He brought in Christophe Galtier after the pair achieved success at Lille.
Campos’s next order of business became transfers. He is reshaping PSG in his model.
PSG’s midfield has been a problem for years now, and the Portuguese director is keen on bringing in more quality to balance his squad.
Gini Wijnaldum has been sent to Roma, while Idrissa Gueye is on the verge of a transfer to Everton. Danilo Pereira could also leave the club.
PSG have signed Renato Sanches and Vitinha and could add Ruiz to that mix very soon. He was left out of Napoli’s ill-tempered friendly against Espanyol yesterday due to fatigue.
Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas could go the other way in the transfer with a move for Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga stalling.
