Paris Saint-Germain are open to manager Mauricio Pochettino heading to Manchester United at the end of the season.

The Argentine has been heavily linked with United since the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this week, but he appears unlikely to leave Les Parisiens midway through the season.

However, the situation could change next summer with the 49-year-old reportedly feeling ‘strained’ staying in a hotel room since taking charge of the French giants in January.

Les Parisiens are willing to negotiate his release at the end of the campaign. United could return for his services by then with Ralf Rangnick only due to take charge on an interim basis.

There is currently an agreement in place with Rangnick to manage temporarily, but he has yet to report to the club as his work permit application is being processed.

He could make his managerial debut against Arsenal on Thursday, but the fans can’t anticipate an instant improvement. It could take a few games to instil his tactics on the pitch.

The German is known for his gegenpressing that has already been adapted with great effect by Thomas Tuchel, Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola in the Premier League.

It should be a completely different playing style for the club from what they have been used to, and Rangnick may ideally want his successor to adopt similar tactics going forward.

Rangnick will take up a consultant role with United at the end of the season, and he may object to the club’s pursuit of Pochettino despite him being a long-term managerial target.

Ideally, he may look for a potential successor who has a similar playing style. Ajax’s Eric ten Hag, RB Leipzig’s Jesse Marsch and Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Rose could be candidates.

Ten Hag has been heavily linked with the Red Devils in recent months. He could be an ideal manager to take permanent charge, having also got the best of upcoming talents at Ajax.
