While they have made plenty of big moves this summer, Paris FC fell short of what may have been the biggest ones in club history.
Le Parisien reported on Friday that one of the three new Ligue 1 sides this season was pushing to sign Georges Mikautadze (24) to their squad.
The Georgian international, who was born in Lyon, featured for Olympique Lyonnais last season, netting 11 times domestically for them. Mikautadze had only arrived at OL in the summer of 2024 after a deal between his former club, FC Metz, and AS Monaco fell through when he did not agree to a move to the Principality. Instead, he joined Les Gones on a four-year contract worth an estimated €18.5m, plus €4.5m in potential bonuses and a 15% sell-on clause.
There was a point earlier this summer when it looked like Lyon would go down to Ligue 2 due to financial problems, but the DNCG’s original ruling was later overturned.
Ahead of their first campaign in the French top-flight in over 45 years, the Parisian side have made their share of big signings, adding Moses Simon (30), Otávio (23) and Nhoa Sangui (18) during the transfer window. Mikautadze would have been a massive move for the side, who begin Ligue 1 play on August 17 versus Angers SCO.
Mikautadze is the second-highest goalscorer in the history of the Georgian men’s national team, netting 20 times in 37 appearances for them. He finished Euro 2024 as the joint top goalscorer with three goals in his side’s improbable run to the last 16.
