Leandro Paredes has long been rumored to return to Boca Juniors at the end of the season, when his Roma contract expires, to the point that he’s already recruiting his teammates. However, things have changed drastically since Claudio Ranieri’s appointment, La Gazzetta dello Sport informed.
The Argentine has started in every match since the arrival of the veteran boss. He forms a well-assorted combo with Manu Koné. The gaffer showered him with praise.
“Paredes is a champion, which is something that never changes. If I was the coach next year. I would keep him. His extension depends especially on him.”
Ranieri will stay on board as a consultant. The midfielder makes €4.5M. The Giallorossi will ask him to reduce his wages to stay. They’ll propose to split it in half on a seasonal deal with an option.
Paredes was quizzed about his future a week ago.
“My whole family is fine in Rome. Our intention is to stay after going through two rough months.”
Boca Juniors president Juan Roman Riquelme weighed in.
“Leo is a friend, and we talk often. He hopes to continue with the Giallorossi a while longer. Our doors will be open the moment he wishes to come back. I can’t speak about that every second, as it’d risk compromising the relationship with the fans.”
He still has it on his day, but he needs to be properly motivated to show well. They need somebody with his passing chops to make the midfield and the team go. Either Enzo Le Fée proves he can be that, or they’ll have to hold onto him.
