Paraná Clube’s drama: Five different goalkeepers in 17 games | OneFootball

We are not even half way through the Brazilian season and Paraná Clube have already used five different goalkeepers in their 17 games played so far.

As if results weren’t bad enough, the ‘Tricolor paranaense’ are also dealing with goalie issues. The team’s ‘keepers have been suffering injuries on what has proved to be a struggling season back in the Brasileirão’s top division.

Across all competitions (Paranaense championship, Brazilian Cup, Brasileirão), Paraná have had Hugo as the starting goalkeeper once, Thiago Rodrigues seven times, Richard in eight games, Luís Carlos played once coming in as a substitute and David has one start as well. An average of one ‘keeper every 3.4 matches.

Paraná started the season with Richard and Luís Carlos already injured. Hugo had his chance, but it didn’t go well for him. The club then hired Thiago Rodrigues, who played in Richard’s place until he recovered. Thiago later got injured. Richard played until he had muscular pains against Corinthians, and was substituted by Luís Carlos.

Paraná’s manager, Rogério Micale, opted to start with recently signed David against Sport.

Of the five goalkeepers used so far, only Hugo isn’t with the team anymore. He was loaned out to Mamoré-MG. The youngster, Murillo Lopes, who’s also registered with the first team, hasn’t played yet.
