An early goal by Papu Gómez gave Argentina all three points and clinched their place in the Copa América knockout stage.
Scorers: Gómez 10′
Despite making a whopping six changes to the side that defeated Uruguay, brilliant wing play from Ángel Di María allowed Papu Gómez to score the game’s only goal early on in proceedings.
Though Paraguay would register more shots and have a 57-43 edge in possession, La Albiceleste were able to hold on in the second half and earn all three points.
Argentina’s last group-stage match will be on Monday against Bolivia.
The defeat leaves Paraguay in third place on three points following their opening-round win over Bolivia. They will take on Chile this Thursday before closing out group-stage play against Uruguay next Monday.
A 66th-minute Arturo Vidal own goal cancelled out Edu Vargas’ second goal of the tournament as Uruguay registered their first point of the tournament.
Chile continued their unbeaten start and are currently in second place on five points.
