Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pape Matar Sarr has signed a new long-term deal that will keep him at the club until 2030.
Sarr joined Tottenham in 2021 and was immediately loaned back to Metz. He found game time hard to come after returning to Spurs last season, starting just two league games.
However, the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as Spurs manager last summer has given Sarr a new lease of life, and the midfielder has turned his fortunes around.
Sarr has featured in 18 of his side’s 20 league matches, making 16 starts and scoring two goals.
Despite his previous deal running until 2026, Tottenham have rewarded Sarr with a new six-and-a-half-year deal to reflect his elevated status within the squad.
The 21-year-old was substituted just past the half-hour mark in Sunday’s 3-1 win against Bournemouth, where he scored the opener.
It remains to be seen whether Sarr will be fit enough to feature for defending champions Senegal as they look to defend their Africa Cup of Nations crown later this month.
Either way, Tottenham will be without Sarr for their FA Cup tie against Burnley on January 5, as well as Premier League clashes against Manchester United and Brentford later this month.
Since going five games without a win between early November and early December, Tottenham have won four of their subsequent five matches and currently sit fifth in the Premier League table, one point adrift of Arsenal in fourth place.
