Paolo Di Canio has said that Romelu Lukaku is the kind of player that lights up the Scudetto race and has some criticism for Paulo Dybala, according to a report in the Italian media.

Speaking during an interview with Il Resto del Carlino, Paolo Di Canio discussed Inter’s transfer dealings so far as well as the players they are attempting to sign in the next two months.

He clearly has a lot of admiration for Romelu Lukaku who has rejoined Inter on a loan deal from Chelsea. He does bemoan the financial power of the league though, pointing out that clubs must sell before they can buy anyone.

“I’m happy he’s back, because he’s a character, he creates enthusiasm and he lights up the Scudetto fight even more. But this operation is the mirror of Serie A. We’re talking about someone who arrives on loan, because, apart from AC Milan, our teams are forced to sell first, and then take someone.”

The praise for the Belgian striker did not last very long, though. He feels that he is not among the elite players in Europe because he could not make the grade at Chelsea last season.

“In Italy he will score a lot of goals and shift the balance, but I am amazed when critics, including many former players, call him a champion.

“A champion is someone who goes to Chelsea, takes the starting place, and at the first difficulties insists on proving that that place is his. At the European Championship, against Italy, he missed two sensational chances, we have to thank him. One has to wonder why Chelsea get rid of him so quietly.”

Paolo Di Canio is also not very impressed with the recent form of Paulo Dybala who Inter are trying to sign, saying: “I’m really sorry, it is clear that all trace of the player of 4-5 years ago has been lost. If I have to give him that money, the captain’s armband, the role of leader, then no: Dybala doesn’t have that stature, he’s a big kid.”
