Azzedine Ounahi’s (24) move from SCO Angers to Olympique de Marseille, which came off the back of a breakthrough tournament of the 2022 World Cup, never worked out. Affected by injuries in his opening months, he then failed to ever show the level expected of him, the levels that he showed when playing in Morocco’s midfield in Qatar.
As a result, Ounahi left Marseille on a season-long loan at the start of the season, joining Greek side Panathinaikos. The Greek club paid a fee of €500,000 for the loan, whilst a purchase option, thought to be valued around €11m, was also included in the deal.
According to a report from Foot Mercato, the likelihood, as things stand, is for Panathinaikos to exercise that purchase option. Ounahi has played 19 games for the club since making the move at the start of the season and has earned the trust of those at the club. As a result, they are seriously considering making the move permanent. A return to OM, therefore, looks unlikely.
