Palmer extends Chelsea contract after breakthrough season | OneFootball

Cole Palmer has extended his Chelsea contract a further two years to remain at the club until 2033.

The former Manchester City academy graduate’s previous contract at the Blues was due to the expire, but Chelsea have acted quickly in ensuring the 22-year-old put pen to paper on an extension.

Palmer enjoyed a breakthrough season at Stamford Bridge after signing from City last summer in a deal worth £35m, scoring 25 goals in 45 matches in all competition as Chelsea recovered from their disastrous 2022/23 season to claim a Europa Conference League place under Mauricio Pochettino.

His form for the Blues saw him receive an England call-up by Gareth Southgate, and ultimately a spot on the plane to Euro 2024. Despite limited minutes at the start of the tournament, Palmer became a super sub for Southgate, with fans calling for him to start as other starters underwhelmed.

Palmer then exploded onto the scene in Germany, first with his assist to Ollie Watkins’ winner against Netherlands in the Semi-Final, before bringing England level in the Final against Spain with a stunning strike from outside the box.

In the Premier League alone, Palmer scored 22 goals and assisted a further 11 for the west Londoners, with nine of those goals coming from the penalty spot.

Yesterday the 22-year-old was announced as one of the final nominees for the 2023/24 PFA Player of the Season award.
