Palmeiras 4-0 Fortaleza – grand finale Brazilian Champions! | OneFootball

Some Palmeiras supporters were pleased with Internacional defeating Ceará last week, as that postponed definition of the title winner to the following week, when Palmeiras were to receive Fortaleza at the Allianz Parque, while Inter would take on América Mineiro away. Both games to be played simultaneously. Trust TV Globo and CBF to spoil the fun.

Palmeiras’ game was delayed to 9:30 pm to be broadcasted on open television. Earlier on the day, Internacional were defeated by América Mineiro, thus stripping our clash with Fortaleza of any significant importance, palmeirenses celebrating our 11th Brasileirão title before kick-off.

Having secured the title, some feared Palmeiras wouldn’t be too focused against Fortaleza. That was not the case. As if thanking supporters for the season, Palmeiras put on a marvelous exhibition.

Abel lined up Endrick as a starter for the first time and the attacking trio formed by the youngster, Rony and Dudu was on fire. Assisted by Gustavo Scarpa, Rony opened the scorecard already in the 15th minute.

The other goals came naturally as Fortaleza struggled to resist against the champions. Dudu doubled the lead with a beautiful goal in the 32nd minute, Rony scored his second in the 48th minute and Endrick found the back of the Allianz Parque net for the first time in the 64th minute.

The 4-0 was the perfect finish to a flawless campaign. Abel Ferreira became the third manager to win the Libertadores, Copa do Brasil, Brasileirão and State Championship titles for the same team, following Felipão for Grêmio and Cuca for Atlético Mineiro.

There are still three rounds to be played and Palmeiras’ only objective in those game is to increase the current records the club are holding. The 20-game unbeaten run keeps increasing and the team has the goal of being the first ever to finish the tournament undefeated away (under the current league format, in place since 2003).

Although those records would be nice additions to the title, Palmeiras has again delivered an astonishing season. The 3rd Academy is a reality and the future ahead is more than promising.
