Palmeiras came in as strong favorites, but still needed to take care of business Wednesday night and did so thanks to a spectacular effort from Dudu and a second-half Miguel Borja penalty.

Palmeiras will face the winner of Boca Juniors and Cruzeiro in the next round.

The Brazilian side came into the match pretty comfortable after winning the first leg 2-0 in Chile as a result of a pair of costly defensive errors.

Colo Colo wouldn’t be able to manage any more than the odd chance as Palmeiras were comfortable playing with 11 men behind the ball.

The Brazilians allowed the Chileans to possess the ball and only broke on the counterattack when the opportunity allowed them to do so.

The strategy paid off just before half-time when Dudu banged in a special goal to give the home side a comfortable 3-0 aggregate advantage.

The winger received the ball just inside the halfway line and made a spectacular run before he smashed the ball into the top corner.

Eight minutes after the break, VAR confirmed Óscar Opazo pulled down Dudu as he attempted to shoot.

Miguel Borja converted the penalty to put Palmeiras ahead 2-0 on the match and 4-0 on aggregate.

Verdão are now in the Copa Libertadores semi-finals for the first time since 2001, when they were defeated by Boca Juniors on penalties.

They stand a good chance to face Boca in the next round, as they take a 2-0 lead into Brazil to face Cruzeiro on Thursday.

Palmeiras have only won the continental competition once, in 1999, and lost the final the following year.
