18-year-old Italy talent Simone Pafundi says that he is ‘ready’ for the challenge that awaits him in Serie A when he completes his loan with Swiss SuperLeague side Lausanne-Sport at the end of December, and has explained how his experience abroad has helped him grow as a player.

The Azzurrini star joined Lausanne-Sport on a year-long loan deal from Udinese last January. That agreement will come to an end on December 31, although the Swiss outfit have an option to buy for a price in the region of €15m.

Pafundi: ‘I’m ready for Serie A’

Speaking in an interview with Cronache di Spogliato, Pafundi hinted that he could be set to return to Serie A, explaining that his experiences in Switzerland have helped prepare him for the Italian top flight.

“After this experience in Switzerland, I’m ready for Serie A, where there are lots of young players coming through right now. I’ve learned more about the defensive phase than anything else here,” Pafundi said.

“Looking at the numbers, some might say ‘Pafundi didn’t do well in Switzerland,’ but if you watch the games, I wouldn’t say that’s the case. I’ve grown physically and in terms of confidence. My experiences with the (Italy) U20s shows me that I’m doing fine.”

The 18-year-old has registered one goal from his 17 league outings in Switzerland, which came in an eventual 3-1 loss to Servette back in March.
