Romario Ibarra netted a brace for Pachuca as América saw their 2022 Clausura season come to a disappointing conclusion on Sunday (4-1 on aggregate).
Scorers: Ibarra 13′, 66′, Sánchez 43′
Following a 1-1 draw in the first leg on Thursday, América could and should have taken the lead inside the opening two minutes at the Estadio Hidalgo when a dreadful back pass error put Diego Valdes clean through on goal.
Despite three bites at the cherry, the Chilean was unable to get a shot past Pachuca goalkeeper Óscar Ustari.
The hosts would make Las Águilas regret that missed opportunity when a cross from Avilés Hurtado found Ibarra free inside the six-yard box for a simple finish.
And Pachuca stretched their lead just before the break when Érick Sánchez was afforded far too much time and space to beat Guillermo Ochoa with a low drive from distance.
Any hopes the Azulcrema had of staging an unlikely comeback were dashed midway through the second half when Ibarra netted his second of the game for Los Tuzos, with Víctor Guzmán providing the assist.
Victory sees Pachuca progress to the Liguilla final against Atlas, while América are left to reflect on yet another unsuccessful campaign.
