Pablo Torre’s Barcelona’s move was influenced by Quique Setien, says former coach | OneFootball

The success of Pedri and Ansu Fati has had a telling impact on Barcelona’s policy in the transfer market.

Buoyed by the success of the two teenagers, Barça had started their operation to unearth more hidden gems across Spanish football earlier in the year. The result of the operation saw them land a certain Pablo Torre, back in March.

The midfielder was signed from Racing for a fee of €5 million, which could potentially reach up to €20 million through add-ons.

It was a significant investment from a Barcelona side, as they believe Torre is one of the most gifted youngsters in Spanish football, with some even branding him as the “next Pedri”.

In an extensive interview with RAC1, Eder Sarabia has offered a key detail in Barcelona’s pursuit of Pablo Torre and why they may have leapfrogged other Spanish clubs in the race to sign the Racing youngster.

Sarabia, who is the manager of FC Andorra – a club owned by Gerard Pique, believes Quique Setien had a key role to play in convincing Torre to join Barça.

“Pablo Torre is the son of Esteban Torre, one of Quique Setién’s close friends… I’m sure he had something to do with the fact that the player has chosen to sign for Barcelona,” Sarabia told RAC1 (h/t Marca).

Quique Setien managed Barcelona for a brief period, from January 2020 to August 2020. He was sacked early following a disappointing end to the 2019/20 campaign. which included the infamous 8-2 drubbing at the hands of Bayern Munich.

Speaking about Setien, Eder Sarabia praised the veteran manager, who has been without a job since his sacking by Barcelona.

“I have a very good relationship with him. He has always had an excellent relationship with my father, with my sister. The other day I told him to come, it will be a good game.”
