Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is keen to start pre-season strongly for Liverpool and has begun training already, according to the Echo.

The 25-year-old missed the majority of last season after picking up a serious knee injury against Roma in the Champions League semi-final in April 2018, making just two appearances.

However, after making his long-awaited comeback against Huddersfield, in which he came close to scoring, the midfielder is eager to push on ahead of next season.

The Reds squad will play up to nine games in pre-season as they look to rebuild fitness before beginning their 2019/20 campaign, beginning with Tranmere Rovers on July 11.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is reportedly desperate to return to the Liverpool starting XI and is already working overtime while on holiday to ensure he’s fit and firing when the Reds return for pre-season training on July 6.
