Oxford United reaching an agreement with Gary Rowett to take over as the club’s new boss is ‘imminent’, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.
The U’s shocked their supporters by parting ways with Des Buckingham recently and the pressure is on the club to make the right appointment as they look to survive in the Championship this season.
Experienced Championship tactician Rowett has emerged as the man that Oxford United want in charge and talks have been taking place.
Good progress has been made as it is now claimed that an agreement is ‘imminent’ for Rowett to take over the U’s.
Rowett, 50, has substantial experience managing in the Championship.
He has been in charge of Birmingham City, Derby County, Stoke City and Millwall.
The former defender’s last job was as the interim boss of Birmingham City, who were relegated into League One last term.
Rowett will hope he can avoid two relegations on the bounce if he takes charge of Oxford United in the coming days.
