Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte bashed for his stunts on the touchline following NS Mura defeat

Speaking to talkSPORT (h/t Daily Star), Alan Brazil told Tottenham Hotspur coach Antonio Conte to keep his stunts under control on the touchline following the defeat at the hands of NS Mura. The former Inter Milan boss was handed the first defeat of his tenure as a Tottenham manager.

Spurs were shocked on the night as they were the clear favourites coming into the match. However, things took a turn for the worse when Mura took the lead in the early stages. Ryan Sessegnon getting the marching order around the half-hour mark did not help their chances of making a comeback.

Harry Kane did level the scoring after the Italian boss brought on the big guns in the second half, but the Slovenian side emerged victors as they scored from the last kick of the game, giving the 52-year-old his first embarrassing result as a Spurs manager.

“I don’t like the way he’s play acting to the crowd. I don’t like it Ray. When there’s a near miss, he’s like ‘argghhh’ and he’s holding his head and like ‘come on, come on’.”

“Alright I get it, they’ve got to improve, but just calm down. He’s over the top. He’s a top manager but he’s over the top.”

A bit cringe?

It’s easy to point fingers at the former Chelsea and Juventus boss for fielding a team with fringe players that lacked cohesion among themselves but we must understand the need for squad rotation in a long and trying season. As for the “antics”, it is a part of his identity and his trophy cabinet indicates that it isn’t something that hampers his winning pedigree.

Conte needs to make drastic changes to turn Spurs into title contenders.

Football would be a bland sport if you cannot display passion on the field, and with Conte, we have a manager who speaks as much with his gestures on the sidelines as he does with his words. Sure, the Tottenham coach has work cut out for him at the club, but that was clear before he had arrived.

It was clear that our squad had issues, and the team was declining with regard to getting results since the latter stages of Mauricio Pochettino’s era. Losing unexpectedly is a part of the game, but how one overcomes it determines who has the right mentality and who has not.

The result should not overshadow the things Spurs have seemingly gotten right in the past few weeks. From Conte’s appointment to the string of positive results before the defeat against Mura, things are looking bright for us and we can expect the team to only get better from here.
