The transfer window is almost closed – and Chelsea’s race has seemed run for a long time – but there’s one rumour that won’t quite spin down the plughole.

Sky Sports are reporting on the same news that everyone else is, with a tickle of leaks from Catalonia constantly hinting that the winger could yet make the move to London.

Barcelona desperately want him out, and will take anyone’s hand off if they just offer to pay his wages.

But will Chelsea do it? They don’t really need players in his position, and to stuff another injury prone, inconsistent talent into this squad seems like a bad idea. Thomas Tuchel knows him – but if Chelsea were keen, it seems unlikely they would have waited this long.

It’s been clear that Dembele is on the market for over a year now – if we wanted him, we likely would have signed him.

And yet, the rumours won’t quite die…
