Paris Saint-Germain’s red-hot attacker Ousmane Dembélé (27) has been crowned as Ligue 1’s player of the year, marking the highlight of a near-clean sweep for this season’s Champions League finalists at the UNFP awards ceremony in Paris on Sunday night.Dembélé’s transformation under Luis Enrique – who was named Coach of the Year – has been one of the defining stories of PSG’s season. A winger once labelled erratic in front of goal has evolved into an efficient, central threat. Experimented as a false nine from December onwards, Dembouz has racked up 33 goals and 13 assists in all competitions, with a Champions League and Coupe de France final still to come.“Playing more centrally puts me at the heart of the game and closer to goal – it’s helped me become more composed in the box,” Dembélé explained to BeIN Sports after accepting his award. Flanked by France manager Didier Deschamps, he added with a grin: “He still plays me out wide, though.”Dembélé’s award was the headline act in a dominant evening for the Ligue 1 champions, who placed nine players in the Team of the Season – a record. In addition to Luis Enrique’s award, Désiré Doué (19) was named Best Young Player after a season in which he has tallied 12 goals and 12 assists, and earned his first senior France cap in March.Only one trophy escaped the capital club – Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, impressive in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League, claimed Best Goalkeeper ahead of PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Italian had won the award in both 2022 and 2024.GFFN | George Boxall
