Ange Postecoglou admits that the squad size is “too big” and hopes for movements in the coming days

Speaking to the media after the friendly win over Shakhtar Donetsk, Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has admitted that the squad size is “too big” at the moment and expects movements to happen in the coming days.

The boss also alluded to the fact that he is not directly involved in deciding which players leave. But, he assured us that there will be some who would be looking for opportunities elsewhere.

Among all the possible departures from the club, the big one is still unresolved – Harry Kane. Bayern Munich have made their final bid for the England captain and are confident of getting the deal done.

Here’s what Postecoglou said regarding the squad size and possible exits (h/t Football London):

“It’s fair to say our squad is too big at the moment and there are guys who will want to explore opportunities elsewhere. I’m not involved in that. I think we’ll see some movement out in the coming weeks.”

There are other departures on the line as well. Turkish club Galatasaray are in talks to sign midfielder Tanguy Ndombele. Aston Villa are interested in signing Giovani Lo Celso as the Argentina international wants to reunite with Unai Emery.

There is a possibility that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg also leaves with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid interested in signing him.

With three midfield departures possibly on the line, it should spur Tottenham to buy one before the window closes as well. Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse is among the players linked. The Englishman is a subject of interest for West Ham United too.

If Kane leaves, the club has started talks with Porto to sign Mehdi Taremi. With 25 days to go till the transfer window deadline, a lot of things are still in the air for a number of Tottenham players.

Amongst all that confusion, it is good to see the defence starting to take shape with the arrival of Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg. The Dutchman will undergo a medical on Monday and sign a five-year contract with the club.
