Everybody loves a big money signing but which Premier League clubs discovered the best deals?
We’ve highlighted our best bargain buys based on their individual impacts this season.
(Bologna to Arsenal – £16m)
Much was made of Arsenal’s spending spree last summer but on the whole, their signings have impressed – none more so than Takehiro Tomiyasu.
The 23-year-old missed large parts of this season through injury although when fit, has been a standout performer across several defensive positions.
He is excellent in the air, strong in 1v1 duels and surprisingly accomplished on both feet, which makes him a clear contender for our list of bargains.
(Reading to Crystal Palace – £8m)
Crystal Palace are building a reputation for nurturing young talent in English football and Michael Olise is the latest example of this.
It’s been a mixed campaign due to injury but when he has played, the Hammersmith-born midfielder has dazzled with skill, technique and his magical left foot.
If Olise can add more end product to his already polished game, we’re expecting to see his highlight reel explode next season.
(Getafe to Brighton – £15m)
Brighton are often praised for their scouting process and Marc Cucurella presents another win for their highly-regarded recruitment department.
After leaving Barcelona, the Spaniard impressed for Getafe thanks to his energy, versatility and goalscoring exploits which saw him earn recognition at national level.
Cucurella was an instant fan favourite at Brighton – winning their Player of the Year award – and is being linked with Manchester City ahead of the summer window.
(Chelsea to Southampton – £5m)
If there was ever a club to poach young talent from, Chelsea top the list quite comfortably and Southampton have been the latest beneficiaries of this rule.
Tino Livramento did not make a senior appearance for his boyhood club but settled seamlessly at St Mary’s, and became a crucial first team figure under Ralph Hasenhüttl.
The 19-year-old will likely miss nine months of football after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament, but equally adept in defence or attack, a bright future awaits.
(Club Brugge to Watford – £4m)
It was another disappointing season for Watford after they were relegated from the top flight in consecutive campaigns, although one shining light did emerge.
Emmanuel Dennis joined the club from Club Brugge last summer and made an instant impact, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists – clear of any other Hornets’ player.
The Nigerian forward is unlikely to stay at Vicarage Road but early reports indicate his asking price could be around £20m which would be a handsome profit.
