Spurs are finally in rock ‘n’ roll mode

When Tottenham last sacrificed a prized homegrown asset in Gareth Bale, brighter days were supposedly just on the horizon.

Some infamously claimed that they had sold Elvis and replaced him with The Beatles while José Mourinho tipped them for the Premier League title.

Those prophecies ended on a flat note as Spurs’ seven new signings failed to strike a chord, let alone make a successful ensemble. But times have changed.

Harry Kane’s departure is still not keenly felt as Ange Postecoglou’s side maintained their early surge to the summit, ably assisted by four new arrivals.

The Lilywhites’ manager has now taken an unprecedented 23 points from his opening nine top-flight games in charge with his team yet to hit their stride.

It may have taken a decade to crystallise but his new charges are finally in rock ‘n’ roll mode.

Fulham remain very hit and miss

To say Fulham’s form has been patchy would be an understatement – but there were signs for optimism in their second London derby defeat of the season.

Stemming the flow of their hosts’ early onslaught showcased the best in Marco Silva’s men as life without Aleksandar Mitrović remains a work in progress.

Yet they were ultimately undone by failing to complete the basics, all stemming from Calvin Bassey’s undercooked pass out from the back for the opener.

The defender opened the door for Heung-min Son’s 36th-minute opener before similar levels of hastiness led to a repeat outcome early in the second half.

What the Cottagers did in attack augurs well that they will stave off a mid-season malaise but only if their consistency levels start to run from front to back.

Son is the new King of the Lane

When Kane departed north London this summer, he supposedly took the title as the ‘King of White Hart Lane’ with him. Not so.

Son is already laying claim to that moniker once synonymous with his former sparring partner by inspiring Tottenham to their current imperious run.

A trademark curling effort saw the South Korean rack up a half-century of goals on home soil with only Kane and Mohamed Salah scoring more in the Premier League.

The incisive pass to assist James Maddison’s maiden strike before the adoring legions in N17 was further proof that Son is the rightful heir to Spurs’ throne.
