Liverpool threw away a lead late on against West Ham at the London Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

Leading 2-1 with 15 minutes to go, Michail Antonio rose to power home a header to level the game, and all but end Liverpool’s hopes of being crowned Premier League champions next month.

Here are three things we picked out from the encounter.

Liverpool praying for miracles

Jürgen Klopp’s time at Anfield looks set to end with a whimper after this, with one point taken from their last three Premier League games.

Two more points dropped at the London Stadium leaves them a point behind Manchester City, who have two games in hand. They are also two points behind Arsenal, with the Gunners able to extend that to five should they beat north London rivals Tottenham on Sunday.

Even if Mikel Arteta’s side were to lose, it looks a long way back against Pep Guardiola’s side, who are on a long unbeaten run and would have to lose two and draw one of their remaining five games to see Liverpool overtake them, provided the Reds themselves were perfect.

Having battled gamely for much of the season and even been well out in front, it seems that the Anfield outfit have run out of steam at the vital moment.

Jarrod Bowen; too good for West Ham?

Where would West Ham be without Bowen?

The Englishman is enjoying another fantastic season at the London Stadium, and continues to score big goals for his side at record speed.

He broke the deadlock just before half time with a deft header from a corner, marking his first 20+ goal season in West Ham colours.

He then turned provider for the second goal, finding the head of Antonio with an excellent cross 15 minutes from time.

Seemingly a shoo-in for the England squad this summer under Gareth Southgate, West Ham will be grateful that he is tied down until 2030 in east London.

Same story for Liverpool

Arsenal have been the side that plenty of people have linked with strikers this summer, but Liverpool can’t be far behind.

The Reds placed their faith in Darwin Núñez and in injury-prone Diogo Jota this season, but the Uruguayan has been guilty of missing a host of chances and it seems to be catching in the Liverpool squad.

Across their last five games, they have been outscored eight-seven, but by expected goals they should have been comfortably clear.

In fact, they should have found the net 13 times rather than the measly eight.

Had they managed that, they may well still be in the title race, and with a rebuild already on the cards this summer, a clinical finisher is a must for incoming Arne Slot.
