VAR steals the show

VAR really had a lot to say today, didn’t it?

The technology was involved in the game so much that it’s easy to forget that it ruled out a Dani Ceballos goal in the 40th minute.

In the second half, it was used to judge whether there was a Fulham player offside in the build-up to Josh Maja’s penalty, rather than looking at whether the foul by Gabriel on Mario Lemina was actually a foul rather than a dive.

It appeared to have it out for Arsenal as there was a very swift check for a potential handball later on in the half while it also reared it’s ugly head to determine if Eddie Nketiah was offside for his last minute equaliser.

Whether you love or hate VAR, it knows how to spice things up.

Pure drama on a Sunday afternoon.

Fulham all but down

Fulham looked as if they were going to remain in the Premier League with some degree of comfort after beating Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield on March 7.

It’s been four successive defeats since then, and make that five without a win after today.

Yet again they have been dealt the cruelest of hands with a last minute goal taking their wine and turning it into water.

Wolves’ Adama Traore struck a late winner to inflict defeat on the Cottagers last Friday but Eddie Nketiah’s 97th minute tap-in today will have hurt the most.

They are six points behind 17th-placed Burnley but have played two games more than the Clarets.

When things are against you, they really are against you.

Laca blow

Alexandre Lacazette limped off with an injury in the 70th minute and Arsenal supporters will be sweating waiting for news on his condition.

Things don’t look good for the Frenchman, and if it is as feared, a hamstring injury then the 29-year-old’s season could be as good as over.

Lacazette has produced some of his best form in an Arsenal shirt in 2021, scoring ten goals in this calendar year but it’s his role in the team which has symbolised his importance.

The forward is brilliant at linking up with the likes of Emile Smith-Rowe and Bukayo Saka, becoming a focal point for Mikel Arteta’s side which knits the rest of the attack together.

With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang recovering from malaria, this could be a massive blow to Arsenal’s chances of winning the Europa League.
