Arsenal maintained their Premier League title push with a dramatic late win over Luton Town.
This is what we made of the seven-goal thriller at Kenilworth Road.
Just when you thought the Premier League couldn’t produce any more drama, they pulled you back in.
This season has already seen several pulsating, goal-laden affairs – from Stamford Bridge to the Etihad Stadium, via Anfield and Tottenham.
Kenilworth Road’s name was added to that already sizeable list with a spectacle which was certainly up there with the best of them.
An end-to-end contest settled in the dying embers followed an increasingly familiar script as tidy finesse and haphazard defending went hand in hand.
Week on week, the self-proclaimed ‘greatest league in the world’ might finally be living up to its billing.
Moving five points clear of Liverpool, albeit playing a game more, leaves Arsenal in something of a difficult position.
Mikel Arteta already knows the ramifications for most clubs that are sitting top of the Premier League’s pile at Christmas.
Last season, his side became the 15th team in the modern top flight’s history to occupy the summit on 25 December but ultimately fail to win the title.
Manchester City roared back to wrestle their crown from the north Londoners and they are likely to threaten another masterstroke this time around.
Only time will tell if the Gunners can weather that particular storm but David Raya’s costly second-half errors is one area that requires urgent redress.
They say that the league table can sometimes be misleading and Luton Town are definitely proof of that.
Only Everton’s 10-point deduction has spared the newcomers from finding themselves rooted in the bottom three as the festive period looms.
But, equally, the Hatters are already showing that they can more than match several of the Premier League’s big-hitters on home soil on any given day.
Rob Edwards’ side were unfortunate to lose in such crushing fashion against Arsenal, having already been undone by Liverpool’s late leveller in November.
All eyes will firmly be back on a raucous Kenilworth Road for Sunday’s visit of Manchester City to see if they can repeat their valiant effort a third time around.
