Here are our main takeaways from the game …

Goalless, but not dull

Another big game between two of the top sides in the Premier League finishing 0-0? Can we play a new record please.

Except this was relatively entertaining with plenty of end-to-end counter attacking football on show.

The only problem was there was a distinct lack of quality and ruthlessness in the box on display from both sides.

Bernd Leno only had one big save of note to make from Fred but United found themselves with space in the box on more than one occasion but failed to take their chances.

The hosts have dramatically improving at passing in between the lines recently but struggled to create enough in the box tonight – their best opening came from Alexandre Lacazette’s free kick which struck the bar.

It certainly wasn’t dull but there was a sparkle of quality missing from the action which won’t have troubled league leaders Manchester City too much.

United lose ground on City

Manchester United had a point to prove after the shock defeat to Sheffield United on Wednesday night, but they erm, didn’t exactly make it.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side did have the best of the first half but never truly got going in North London tonight.

With Manchester City in relentless form, United cannot afford to drop too many points if they want to mount a title challenge.

Going to the Emirates and winning tonight would’ve made a statement that this team are challengers, not pretenders but it’s now five dropped points in three days which suggest they’re not quite there yet.

Two tricky home fixtures against Southampton and Everton are up next for United – they need to get back on the horse sooner rather than later.

Momentum building at Arsenal

Arsenal have stretched their unbeaten run in the league to seven games.

The second-half performance was an indicator of their improvement over the last two months, and lets not forget it wasn’t long ago that the threat of a relegation dogfight was lingering over the Emirates.

Emile Smith-Rowe has been a majestic addition the team, Thomas Partey looks a solid acquisition and even Nicolas Pépé is starting to look like he can contribute on a consistent basis.

The Gunners head to deal without Kieran Tierny and Bukayo Saka tonight and still looked threatening on the counter-attack.

A push for Europe is certainly not out of the question for Mikel Arteta.
